Bergen CLC, NJ AFL-CIO Makes Endorsement for 2009 General Election

On Wednesday, June 10, 2009 delegates of the Bergen County Central Trades and Labor Council, AFL-CIO (CLC) voted at their monthly meeting to endorse candidates for Bergen County Freeholder, and recommended endorsements for NJ Governor and General Assembly, in the November general election.

The CLC delegates voted to endorse incumbents Julie O'Brien and Vernon Walton for Freeholder. The Bergn CLC provided its endorsement recommendations for Governor and NJ General Assembly at the NJ State AFL-CIO COPE Conference on June 16 and 17 in Atlantic City. The recommendations were then voted on by the delegates at the Conference for each Legislative District in the state.

Endorsements were offered to the following candidates based on the CLC's recommendations:

Frederick Scalera (D) (incumbent)
Gary Schaer (D) (incumbent)

NJ General Assembly District 37
Valerie Huttle (D) (incumbent)
Gordon Johnson (D) (incumbent)

NJ General Assembly District 38
Connie Wagner (D) (incumbent)
Joan Voss (D) (incumbent)

NJ General Assembly District 39
Michael McCarthy (D)
John Shahdanian (D)

NJ General Assembly District 40
Mark Bombace (D)
John Agostinelli (D)

“The recommendations for endorsement were made after an extensive screening process of the candidates,” said Charles Mattson, President of the Bergen County Central Trades and Labor Council. “Through questionnaires, interviews and voting records [of incumbents], we feel that we have endorsed candidates who will do what is right for working families in Bergen County and New Jersey.”
